You don't seem to understand Eve at all, despite what you've said. If there is a way to gain an advantage, no matter how underhanded, dishonorable, or EXPENSIVE it is (either in RL money or isk) someone, generally lots of someones, will do it. And that's part of the fun of eve there's always some scandal or another going on somewhere, it's great. Being able to instantly have any skill? Game breaking? yes. It's really too easy for some small minority of individual to abuse and they would. Ideals are great, but reality needs to be factored in. If it can be abused, twisted, or used to create an advantage it will be, in real life and doubly so for EVE, where the absolute consequences are much less profound (I said something similar earlier but thought it should be stressed).
Also, sure they're going to learn skills faster, but are they actually going to know how they matter? How to use the ships and modules that are suddenly available to them? I'm sure a lot of people have run into that 1 or 2 year old character that just seems to have no clue on fitting, tactics, or strategy, which are a huge part of the game. These are generally purchased characters, new players that didn't take the time to learn the skills the hard way, and usually they suck for that reason. They don't know all the little things that make a huge difference when it comes to actually playing eve, and there are lots of little things. One reason getting skills takes so long is, that time is also needed to learn how to use them PROPERLY.
I know I needed it. My first true PVP experience was in a group of 3 drakes and a myrm, we killed a vigil thought we were great and then ALL died to a nano Domi ... 1 nano Domi ( pre first nano nerf and nos nerf ). You think someone that just spent anywhere from $50 to $500 to a $1000 ( you say no, but they will ) on skills, is going to keep playing a game where someone who has fewer skill points but better understanding of their usage can still kick their ass up between their earlobes? Sure in my example we we're noobs and the lower sp characters, but it was 4 on 1. Most people that would buy the skills don't have the patience to learn to play EVE, they want to skip all the learning and head straight into kicking ass and taking names. Do you think they'd find it was hilarious that they just got waxed by someone who actually knew what they were doing? We did. Still do.
Eve is not easy to learn, everyone knows this, CCP admits this, and it tends to put off the instant gratification crowd. But its strength is, those 300,000 crazy fools who get through those first 3 months and especially that first year, are a very loyal player base. Sure CCP ****s up royally on occassion, patches come out buggy, some things hintingly promised quietly disappear, boot.ini files get misplaced, but we're still playing cause we find the game fun and part of the fun is earning those new shiny toys after months of training. I just got my first carrier, I've been playing for almost 3 years, I took that long to gather the skill necassary, both in SP and playing ability before I could justify the investment (actually I've wanted one for awhile but I kept spending my isk on other pvp ships). Do I want someone to come in and play for less than 3 months and get the same reward? No. You're going to point at the character bazazr again, as someone mentioned above, that's really CCP bowing to the inevitable and attempting to regulate something they couldn't eliminate. At it's heart Eve is a game with time released goodies. I like that, so do a lot of people. Allowing folks to purchase "skill" will do nothing to enhance gameplay for anyone. You'll just have angry people dieing in ships they don't know how to fly and irritated old timers whose invested time is made worthless and making it easier to dominate the game if you have insane amounts of cash, real or digital. Once agian NO.
